Witkoppen Lodge is situated at the foothills of the magnificent Drakensberg Mountain Range. Located in the Memel/Verkykerskop district in the north eastern region of the Free State Province.​​

This privately owned lodge located in the Witkoppen Reserve is malaria-free and boasts a rich biodiversity including game species such as black wildebeest, plains zebra, blesbok, springbok, southern reedbuck, mountain reedbuck and many other smaller mammals. The unique birdlife of the area includes some threatened and sought-after species such as blue crane, grey crowned crane, blue korhaan, verreaux’s eagle, cape vulture, secretarybird  and southern bald ibis.

 

This secluded 1400 hectare reserve is also known for its botanical gems along with a wealth of cultural and historical sites such as bushman

paintings and remnants of Anglo Boer War. The Witkoppen area boasts a moderate summer climate with typical Highveld thunderstorms which accentuates the dramatic beauty of cloud formations and colours that is so typical of the eastern Free State. The cold winters are extreme, often resulting in a covering of snow on the mountains and in the valleys.

 

Activities offered include; beautiful hiking trails, guided horseback safaris amongst the wildlife, mountain bike routes and fly fishing in three large dams in which largemouth bass and smallmouth yellow fish reside.
